SCSA Animal Data

Cats

Teratospermia commonly occurs with the Felidae. Even morphologically normal spermatozoa from teratospermic ejaculates have reduced fertilization potential.  It is unknown whether fertilization deficiencies originate at the nuclear level.  Teratospermic ejaculates expressed more (p<0.05) chromatin heterogeneity than their normospermic counterparts.

Penfold, L.M., Evenson, D.E., and Wildt, D.E. (2003) Normo- versus teratospermic domestic cat sperm chromatin integrity evaluated by flow cytometry and intracytoplasmic sperm injection1"  Biol. Reprod. 69: pp 1730-1735.
