Stallions
The SCSA is recognized as an analysis for breeding soundness in the Manual of Equine Reproduction (Mosby 2nd Edition Blanchard TL, Love CC, Varner DD Brinsko SP, Schumaker J, Rigby SL) . The SCSA quickly identifies stallions whose sperm have damaged DNA, thereby reducing the pregnancy rate per cycle/season. While the DFI values are significantly correlated to pregnancy outcome the values are not as high as with bulls. A possible reason is the complexity of the breeding patterns on different farms etc.
