Fever

A man had an influenza-induced fever of 104oF and recovered quickly.  The first sample obtained at 18 days after the fever had an approximate 50% DFI and then improved (Figure 4 ) (Evenson et al. 2000).

The control (pre-fever) sample is in the upper left-hand corner.  Note that the 25 day sample post-fever contained a significant number of sperm with an increased susceptibility to DNA denaturation.  By 53 and 66 days post-fever, the DFI values have returned to pre-fever values (Evenson et al. 2000).
